Having had enough of flipping burgers for The Hard Rock Café during his three-year overseas stint, Evert returned to a sunnier home in Joburg to pursue the interest he’d developed in photography during his worldwide travels. After qualifying through the National College of Photography, the avid surfer headed to Cape Town on a whim and landed himself a dream job at Top Billing – photographing some of the country’s hottest celebs.
After two years of shooting Minki, Elbe V and Cindy Nell in their bikinis, a Bollywood actress and Top Billing presenter Ursula Stapelfeldt at their glamorous weddings, and the country’s hottest chefs and winemakers, he’s out on the loose - telling the photo stories he loves most.
Fashion and weddings are his modus operandi. Put some form of life and personality in front of his camera and he’s be happy. Add some fashionable attire and he’s in shutter-speed heaven. Evert loves the way clothing extends one’s personality, and enjoys capturing those moments that make people do a double take. The variety that fashion offers excites him, and he’s always challenging himself to tell the story differently.
Perhaps it’s the fact that he loves celebrations and thrives in happy environments that Evert continues to photograph weddings. He sees these events as fashion shows in their own right. ‘So much goes into a wedding dress, and the bride only has one day to use it and create memories with it. I love capturing those moments,’ he says. It helps that people tend to click with him instantly and feel a personal connection to the photographer of their special day.
His greatest reward? Creating the perfect freeze frame that’s able to tell an entire story through one image. Give him a shout; we’re sure he’d love to tell your story…
